This original 61GS Japanese Dress Watch with 18K Gold GS Medallion case back is Vintage circa 1967 from Grand Seiko, created under Taro Tanaka’s “Grammar of Design”. The sharp lines of these original case shapes are the essence to all modern Grand Seiko’s.

Many have been polished over the decades losing their original shape, which drastically affects their value and collectibility. This watch however still retains all the beautiful sharp case lines that came new from the factory. With some light scratches both on the glass and the steel case (as shown in the photos), which is expected for a vintage watch from 1967.

When it comes to vintage watches a “perfect original dial” without some sort of discoloration is extremely rare and usually very expensive. Beware of re-dials (restoration jobs on watch dials that have been repainted). The dial colour and the variations in the font from the original printing is a dead give away of a re-dial, which drastically affects the value and collectibility of a watch.

While the dial on this watch looks perfect from a distance – If you look very closely you will see some discoloration at the very edge between the 8 and 9 position (as shown in photos). This is expected for a vintage watch as the original dial here is in excellent condition considering it’s age.

If you’re here for the movement, you will know that the Seiko caliber 6146A is the automatic version of the movement which brought the Swiss to their knees. Where Seiko swept the board in the mechanical wristwatch movement category in the Neuchatel Observatory Competition in 1967 and the Geneva Observatory competition in 1968. Showing that their watches were not only equal to their Swiss counterparts but actually proved to be more accurate!

The caliber 6146A is the top of the line 25 Jewel Automatic Hi-Beat version. It runs at 3600bph giving it that highly sort after visually smooth seconds hand – Just like modern Grand Seiko’s! This 6146 watch and movement was hand assembled in Japan, this version comes upgraded with a Day-Date window.

The 36mm case size of this dress watch wears modestly as is popular for vintage dress watches of this era.

This model comes with applied logos, screw-down case back with 18k Gold GS Medallion, a signed crown and a day-date complication.

The watch was recently serviced in Japan and is running at around 6 seconds per day.

This watch uses an ideal 18mm Lug Width.

Included with this watch are three new luxury 18mm watch straps for matching your watch to your outfit with a variety of looks. Black, White & Bordeaux Red (see photos for reference).

**Note**

If your wrists are a medium size and you like a big dial or you have a large wrist size – This is probably not the watch for you (39mm to 42mm dial will probably suit you better). This is a modest 36mm dress watch. If you have small wrists or medium wrists and prefer a classically vintage dress watch case size, you will love this watch and it will look great!
